“The chin is gone”- Daniel Cormier advises Alexander Gustafsson to ‘walk away’ from the sport

Daniel Cormier and Alexander Gustafsson

Daniel Cormier wants Alexander Gustafsson to retire from the sport after looking at his devastating loss against Nikita Krylov. Gustafsson and Krylov fought each other at UFC London in a light heavyweight bout that didn’t turn out the way Gustafsson would have imagined. The fight ended in 67 seconds when Krylov landed a series of heavy shots which dropped Gustafsson to the ground. Gustafson looked absolutely helpless and his attempts to evade the shots were futile. In the end, the referee stopped the fight and Krylov was declared the winner via knockout.

Gustafsson suffered his fourth loss in a row and second one after returning from retirement in 2020. The fighter who had a great career and has given some of the best fights in UFC lightweight history is not the same anymore.

After such a brutal loss, Gustafsson was down and looked demotivated. This prompted his former opponent, Daniel Cormier who made a tweet regarding Gustafson.

DC took the Twitter to explain that Gustafsson is exhausted and has a fighter and it will be better if he decides to go back to retirement. Cormier revealed that those shots by Krylov were hard but Gustafsson used to withstand them but now he can’t. The former UFC double champion sincerely suggested Gustafsson so retire and give credit for his career.

” Gustafsson is done. He needs to walk away, these shots are hard but he used to eat those. The chin is gone, walk away my friend. We all have expiration date. One of the best to not have had a title.”

Cormier and Gustafsson go way back to 2015 when the pair collided at UFC 192 in a title match. On the fight night, both the fighters tested each other’s limits and produced one of the best lightweight title fights in history. In the end, DC was announced the winner via a split decision but the fighter has always believed that it was the toughest fight of his career.

Gustafsson is undoubtedly one of the legends of the UFC lightweight division. Even though he never won the title he will always be remembered as a legend whose place will never be filled.
