“Fiction” – Daniel Cormier believes Kamaru Usman won’t be a multi-division Champion before retiring from the UFC
Kamaru Usman- Daniel Cormier
Daniel Cormier doesn’t think Kamaru Usman will become a two-division champion in future despite his skillset. Usman is the pound-for-pound number one MMA fighter in the world and has been ruling the welterweight division for some time now.
The fighter has destroyed every opponent he faced and has cleared the 170 lbs, weight class. When the champion is so dominant, it’s natural for fans to expect him to move up and try to become a double champion.
However, it’s not that easy for Usman as the middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya is a great friend of Usman. Both share their origin of coming from Nigeria and don’t want to fight with each other. For this reason, Usman has now mentioned his intentions to fight in the light heavyweight division.
“He ain’t gonna win at 205” – Daniel Cormier shuts down Kamaru Usman’s claims of winning at 205 lbs
The UFC YouTube channel streamed the UFC 278: Live weigh-in show where the fighters weighed in and went face to face with each other before fighting it out inside the octagon. As usual, after the weigh-ins, UFC hosted their segment where MMA presenters along with professional fighters sat down and discussed the upcoming event.
In the recent discussion, it was asked, whether Kamaru Usman would be able to end his UFC career as a double champion. While responding to this, UFC Hall of Famer Daniel Cormier revealed that it’s not gonna happen. DC mentioned that he thinks Usman can never win at light heavyweight regardless of what the fighter believes. According to DC, Usman will not fight at Middleweight due to sharing a brotherhood with Israel Adesanya. He said:

“Fiction! Not because he doesn’t have the ability, fiction because he will be unwilling. He ain’t gonna win at 205, I don’t care what he says. But 185 he’s not gonna be willing to do it because of the Adesanya connection.”
Even though Usman and Adesanya have agreed that they are only willing to fight if the money is massive, it will take a lot of time. On the other hand, despite Usman’s claims about becoming a light heavyweight champion, as DC said it’s going to be an enormous challenge for the Nigerian. Going two divisions above and winning against way heavier and bigger opponents is not a joke. Nevertheless, knowing Usman’s competitiveness, it will be interesting to see how the fighter will like to continue his legacy.
