“DYING saying I can’t do that,” Daniel Cormier remembers HORRIFYING experience of weight cutting in response to Khamzat Chimaev’s debacle

Khamzat Chimaev & Daniel Cormier

Seems like Daniel Cormier can understand the guilt in a situation, as long as he has been there before, just like Khamzat Chimaev was last week. Cormier is the former simultaneous 2-division UFC champion and an Olympian. He is the second UFC fighter to achieve the aforementioned status and was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame this year. Cormier is now a successful Youtuber who talks about various things related to combat sports and is also a UFC commentator as well.

Chimaev is one of the most talked about UFC fighters in the world today. Born in Chechnya and fighting out of Sweden, Chimaev trains at All-Stars gym in Sweden under coach Andreas Michael. He is 12-0 undefeated with 11 finishes. Chimaev’s last win against Kevin Holland at UFC 279 was another flawless performance by The Borz, but what is talked about the most today is his missing the weight by 7.5 lbs for his original bout against Nate Diaz.

Daniel Cormier says it’s only the fear of embarrassment that motivates fighters to cut weight

In one of the videos on his YouTube Channel, Cormier talks about 3 hot topics of the week in a special segment, one of which turned out to be the issue of weight cutting. Back when he was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame of class 2022, Cormier confessed to having cheated during the weigh-ins of UFC 210 before his fight against Anthony Johnson. He basically grabbed the towel that was put in front of him to avoid getting caught naked in the public eye. The towel grab helped Cormier to come out a pound less than his actual weight. Cormier revisited his time in relation to Khamzat Chimaev’s weight miss at UFC 279.

“Is he nine over going to the bed? To wake up at 7.5 lbs [overweight]? I know that you don’t sleep whenever you cut that amount of weight because I didn’t sleep at all. You’re literally just sitting there dying in your emotions of I can’t do that. But the one thing that always makes you try, is the embarrassment of knowing that if you walk up there overweight, what are people gonna think…” said Cormier.

What do you make of Cormier’s thoughts on Chimaev’s weight cut in relation to his own experience of weight cutting? Where do you put Cormier amongst the greatest combat sports fighters of all time? Where do you put Chimaev amongst the most promising aspects right now? Do you think Chimaev will become a world champion in the near future? Do you think Chimaev will stay at welterweight or move up to middleweight after the weigh-in debacle?
