“I feel like Adesanya’s a long way off”- Darren Till admits he’s a long way off from a title shot against Israel Adesanya

Darren Till and Israel Adesanya

Darren Till was one of the exciting prospects in the UFC back in the day. The young striker from England quickly made a name for himself in the organization, and he was provided with a welterweight title shot against the former champ, Tyron Woodley back in 2018. Till fought a great fight, but Woodley executed a perfect game plan and secured a choke to retain his belt.

Since then, Darren hasn’t been able to find his footing in the UFC, he even moved up to the middleweight division, but a split decision win against Kelvin Gastelum was followed by two more losses. He went 1-4 in his last five fights, and he was in a tough spot in his career. He knew he had to change some things, and he decided to train with another young prospect, Khamzat Chimaev.

Chimaev helped Darren regain confidence in himself, and he believes it rejuvenated his career. Middleweight king, Israel Adesanya has been keeping a close eye on Darren ever since his arrival, and he has shown interest in fighting him on a number of occasions. After his recent loss against Derek Brunson.

“I’ve tried to set it up so many times, but Darren Till hasn’t really stepped up,” Adesanya explained. “And he’s fumbled the bag a few times. But I feel like it’s not done. He’s young. He’s a young guy. His story reminds me of Bisping in a way. Michael Bisping was a guy, people counted out ‘The Count’! You don’t count out ‘The Count’!”

Darren is now training hard for his next fight, and with this newfound confidence, he wants to take on the elites of the division to earn his shot. Darren and Adesanya had a little back and forth after UFC London, but Darren believes he has some work to do before he can challenge Adesanya for the middleweight title.

Talking to Submission Radio, he said, “I feel like Adesanya’s a long way off. I feel like I’ve got to just get a few wins under my belt and prove how good I am to the people again, you know. Obviously, as soon as I get the title fight and win it’s just like the sky’s the limit and then it’s like the possibilities are endless, I’ve just got to work hard and stay humble and get there, you know, and do the right things by myself.”
