Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson will take on Adriano Moraes in his first title defence at ONE Championship event in Colorado. He recently came on the MMA Hour hosted by famed Journalist Ariel Helwani to promote his upcoming fight and talk about the various topics related to MMA. One topic that they discussed involved Jon Jones and his recent Heavyweight title win. However, Demetrious Johnson feels Jones would have beaten Ciryl Gane without bulking up.

He said, “Honestly, I didn’t think he needed to put on that weight to do what he just did. He could have done all that at 205. At the end of the day, it’s not like he’s going against a massive jiu-jitsu wrestler in the Heavyweight division, right? Jon Jones is long, he has the range advantage for most of his fights. Look at DC (Daniel Cormier). DC’s like 5-foot-9, 265 [pounds], and he was able to do everything he wants.

Demetrious Johnson is highly confident about the ability and skill of Jon Jones and felt that he could have beaten Gane as a Light Heavyweight. The former Heavyweight Champion Francis Ngannou needed all five rounds to defeat Gane, but Jones did it in less than five minutes. Yet another indication that skill level matters at the highest level of MMA. Hence, one can argue that Johnson is correct about Jones beating Gane as a Light Heavyweight.

Adriano Moraes will seek revenge against Johnson when they compete in their trilogy bout at the ONE Championship event in Colorado. It is the first time Johnson will defend his ONE Flyweight title and returns to once again fight on US soil. He recently came on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Hour to discuss his upcoming fight and laid out his future plans.

He said, “Being 36, I sit down with the wife and kids, even my close friends, my inner circle who they don’t watch mixed martial arts, they don’t train, they all have normal citizen jobs, you could say, and sometimes I sit there and think, how much more do I need to do? How much more do I want to do?”

Johnson’s fighting days might end after his fight with Moraes. He has accomplished things that very few fighters have accomplished. However, he hopes to go out on top with a victory over his fierce rival Adriano Moraes in May.
