UFC CEO Dana White is looking forward to the UFC 296 clash between Paddy Pimblett and Tony Ferguson. Despite doubts regarding the unnatural matchmaking, White seems confident about the matchup.
In an interview at Dana White’s Contender Series, White spoke about the matchup. He said, “I think a lot of people feel that Paddy is unproven. And I feel a lot of people think that this is the fight that Tony is in deep waters like his last couple of fights. The matchmaking and the timing in this fight is excellent. Couldn’t be more perfect. If you look at Tony, the last few fights that he fought, he looked damn good before the (Michael) Chandler finish. And every fight that he’s fought in the last 2-3 fights, he looked damn good right up until the end. So it’s a fun and interesting fight.“
When White announced the fight, many fans disagreed with the matchup. The fans believed that Paddy was an up-and-coming fighter who stood as a major favorite in this upcoming fight. And Ferguson, who is on a bad run of losses, remains at a disadvantage. The dynamics of the fight stand pretty clear for the MMA fans who were not in favor of the matchup.
Ferguson last fought Bobby Green at UFC 291, which resulted in a loss after Green submitted ‘El Cucuy’ in the final round. His run of losses against the likes of Green, Nate Diaz, and Michael Chandler makes him a huge underdog at UFC 296. However, many MMA fans will look forward to seeing what the ‘El Cucuy’ can bring to the fight.
Michael Bisping gives his opinion on fans underestimating Tony Ferguson ahead of UFC 296
Former UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping has shared his opinion on the matchup between Tony Ferguson and Paddy Pimblet. Many fans have expressed their anger to the UFC over irresponsible matchmaking. Both fighters are on opposite runs in the UFC. As Paddy is on a winning run, while Ferguson has not won a bout since his last six fights.
However, Michael Bisping still gave Ferguson a chance in this fight despite all the odds. Bisping believed that Ferguson was a dangerous opponent. According to the Englishman, ‘El Cucuy’ can only be stopped by submission, or he will charge his opponent throughout the fight. Bisping emphasized Ferguson’s attitude by saying there’s “no quit in that man.”
Pimblett’s latest win was against lightweight veteran Jared Gordon, which came after a controversial decision. Ferguson will be Paddy’s most relevant opponent in his MMA career. Both fighters will go at each other on December 16th in Las Vegas.
