Colby Covington is currently preparing for his welterweight championship bout against Leon Edwards at UFC 296 in Las Vegas. Amidst this, he expressed his skepticism on Islam Makhachev‘s recent comments. Makhachev is currently the reigning UFC lightweight champion. Makhachev recently revealed that he wanted to claim another title by fighting Colby Covington or Leon Edwards. Covington, however, remains doubtful about Makhachev’s true intentions.

In response to Covington’s callout, Islam Makhachev expressed his interest in facing him, but Covington remains unconvinced. In his words to Submission Radio, “He ain’t really going to come out here and fight,” Covington said.

Colby Covington firmly believed that American wrestling reigns supreme and dismissed Sambo as an ineffective style, stating, “Khabib did the same thing…they know that American wrestling is the best…that Sambo sh*t don’t work”.
