Even away from active fighting status, Conor McGregor remains one of the biggest draws in promotion history. Hence, fans continue to await his official return with much angst, especially for UFC 300. Sometimes such angst turns into vibrant jibes. As was the case of McGregor’s latest training footage going viral, as he edges close to a comeback. He is to fight it out with TUF Season 31 coach and expectant rival Michael Chandler.

The 22-6 MMA, 10-4 UFC former champion recently announced his supposed return with a 185lbs twist. Speaking on ESPN MMA‘s “DC & RC” show, veteran Daniel Cormier had prompted McGregor vs. ‘Iron’ is very possible at 185lbs. But now, he is singing a different perspective tune. Here’s what Cormier had to say on his show yet again:

If McGregor fights Diaz, that is what I believe draws the general fan in as much as anything that they could do in the UFC right now...Just because of Nate Diaz and the intrigue, the way the first fight played out, the way the second fight played out. It is still two of the highest-grossing pay-per-views in UFC history...These two men when you put them together make a lot of money and it is far enough out there to be considered an attraction...

Cormier adamantly advocated for a trilogy bout to take place against Nate Diaz. The McGregor-Diaz rivalry began in 2016, with Diaz’s short-notice 2nd-round rear-naked choke the highlight at UFC 196. For UFC 202, they got things back on track and put on a 5-round war where the Irishman evened the odds with a majority decision win. Cormier thus thinks another such face-off would have massive PPV buyouts.

Since then, the duo have managed just 2 wins in MMA. Recently, even Diaz heavily teased a trilogy outing against McGregor for UFC 300. But unlike him, or Cormier, Chandler is willfully aiming for his own brawl. So much so that he is willing to take a dig at the Dubliner’s lifestyle, to bait him.

A brief recap of Michael Chandler and Conor McGregor jibing at each other’s prowess

Conor McGregor recently teased his supposed return at UFC’s International Fight Week in June, for UFC 302. Barring that he has also nudged his interest to headline UFC 300’s historic fight card. The expectant rival to be – Michael Chandler.

‘The Notorious’ teased his probable comeback at middleweight. Chandler (23-8 MMA, 2-3 UFC) has spent most of his career at 155lbs but has no problem fighting McGregor two divisions up.

However, that does not mean the fighters cannot participate in preemptive diss, to bait each other in the lead-up.

The fighters have been squabbling over their individual prowesses, ever since the start of the year. Serving as opposing judges for TUF 31, the duo has one of the top UFC face-offs of 2023. But their internet banter holds equal promise.

McGregor has reposted a snap of comparison between the two, on X, transitioning to 185lbs. On this, Chandler gibed at him never lifting heavy weights, which conversely earned a savage response.

Later, he mocked the Dubliner’s resolve, spending some 30 months on the shelf. He mocked McGregor to “get off his yacht“; to which the latter quipped that he doesn’t need to – because his yacht has a gym.

McGregor owns a 19.2-meter Tecnomar For Lamborghini 63 yacht, one of 63 in existence. Reportedly worth over €3.1 million, the extravehicular amenities include an on-board gymnasium.

It is safe to say that with much history, the fighters have given shape to much subsequent banter. However, only time will tell if that banter sees fruition, in the form of a slated super fight.
