Dominick Cruz recently did a virtual interview with ESPN MMA’s reporter Brett Okamoto. In the interview, the fighter discussed his upcoming fight and preparations for it.

While talking about the key things that will help him win the fight against Marlon Vera, Cruz gave a rather sophisticated yet amazing answer. The former UFC champion explained that he doesn’t like to limit his mindset by thinking about the results before the fight. The fighter revealed that he fights to express his sense of freedom and is willing to give up his life while fighting inside the octagon. Curz said :

“Honestly for me, the key is being in the ground of creativity, freedom and possibility and not trying to figure out what’s gonna happen, being willing to deal with the unknown. Win lose or draw, I’m in this for the freedom, the creativity and possibilities and the more try to attach to a win or a loss or a decision, the more you trap yourself. Whatever gets brought to me in that octagon and be willing to die on that night. I’m happy with how I’ve lived my life. I’m happy with everything that I have created and if I was to die on that night would I be okay with that? Yes, I would.”

It’s truly great to approach a fight as thinking about the results puts unnecessary stress on the fighter’s mind which has no place during the preparation. The only way to know what and how things will go is to wait for the fight this weekend.
