Dominick Reyes is one of the biggest ‘what ifs?’ in the sport of MMA. Reyes has not been the same since his controversial loss to Jon Jones for light heavyweight title. Since the defeat, Reyes has not won as he suffered brutal KO losses thrice. The UFC had scheduled Reyes to fight at UFC 297 against Carlos Ulberg, which the promotion rescheduled after an injury to Ulberg.
Unfortunately, Reyes had to pull out from the rescheduled bout. Recently, he revealed the reason in his interview with James Lynch for Middle Easy. This is what he said.
I ended up getting blood clots. Deep vein thrombosis, and so yeah, I'm out for a minute. I'm lucky to be alive right now. That's always nice, you know because we caught it early. Right, so it didn't become a pulmonary embolism and thank God for that.
Reyes didn’t know that he had blood clots. He initially self-diagnosed the blood clot as a muscle spasm and even got a massage. Reyes stated that it is very dangerous to get a massage if you get a blood clot. Nonetheless, he got lucky as something like that did not happen, and he thanked god for that.
Even though he is on a four-fight losing streak, Reyes stated that he did not have any plans to retire. Many have called for his retirement after the losses, but he still occupies 14th in the UFC light heavyweight rankings. Reyes has trained with current light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira in the past.
