Donald Cerrone is out to snap his six-fight losing streak against Joe Lauzon at UFC 274. He’s been out of competition for just over a year as he tries to re-calibrate, but he claims he’s left no stone unturned coming into fights again. Cerrone revealed he moved out of the “BMF Ranch” in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and now lives in his RV outside of the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. This has allowed him to concentrate solely on defeating Lauzon.

Cerrone says he didn’t take the necessary precautions to prepare for recent fights. After 37 octagon appearances, he became complacent, and no one could blame him for deciding his career in the sport was finished given recent outcomes.

In the pre-fight interview, he stated,  I’ve set records. I’ve been here. I’ve stayed here. I’ve done what I needed to do. I look at myself in the mirror – I’m here for legacy now. This is just for me. I don’t have to worry about impressing anyone anymore. That’s done. I’m at the age now where you like me if you don’t, I don’t give a f*ck. This is for legacy.”

Despite a tough patch in recent years, the 39-year-old “Cowboy’s” legacy is unmistakable, with his most recent victory coming in May 2019. He’ll have to keep his emotions in check against Lauzon if he wants to end a six-game losing streak. He has been a fan favorite for many years, holds many records, and is well respected in the MMA community. This is set to be his fight in the UFC and his journey has been nothing short of a movie.

Cerrone remarked during the UFC 274 Media Day while fighting back tears, stated, “I can’t wait to walk out of that tunnel and see the look on his face. I can’t wait. He knows finally what I do. It’s crazy how emotional I get but any time I was working out and I didn’t want to do it, that’s who I thought of. I cannot f*****g wait.”

He added, “I cannot wait to see him smile like, ‘wow, this is my dad’ so to me that’s why I wanted a sold-out crowd. To walk out of that tunnel, blow the roof off this place and look over and see my son like, ‘wow Dad, that’s you.’”

UFC 274 takes place at Footprint Center on Saturday. Following prelims on ESPN and ESPN+, the main card, which features Cerrone vs. Lauzon, airs on pay-per-view.
