“July 30th”- Dustin Poirier accepts a fight against Colby Covington at UFC 277
Colby Covington and Dustin Poirier
The rivalry between Dustin Poirier and Colby Covington has been around for some time lately. Both the fighters clearly mentioned how much they hate each other and would like to fight inside the octagon.
It all started when Poirier fought Conor McGregor at UFC UFC 264 and the fight was stopped due to Mcgregor’s leg injury. Poirier was announced the winner but Covington called the win a fluke and insulted Poirier’s wife. During a interview with Fanatic View, Covington said :
“It was a fluke. Conor broke his leg. It was a fluke decision ending…he’s got his little prop, his wife Jolie out there. Obviously, she’s a prop. He only uses her for a prop because he knows he’s a piece of sh*t person and he wants to act like he’s a nice guy, family man, a father and a good husband.”
Later at UFC 272, Covington beat Jorge Masvidal via unanimous decision and took the opportunity to call out Poirier for a fight.
“I just took care of Miami street trash; now it’s time to take care of Louisiana swamp trash. Where you at Dustin Poirier … You said it’s on sight; name the site, Dustin. Bring that Jezebel of a wife and bring that little kid and I’ll see you soon. You’re next,” Covington said during the post fight interview.

After all those insults and call-out, Poirier was still not interested in fighting Covington inside the octagon. In fact, he had his focus set on Nate Diaz who is on the last fight of his UFC contract.
Even though there were rumours regarding the fight, no further developments took place in that matter. But it seems like finally Poirier has found his next opponent.
Recently ‘ The Diamond’ took to Twitter and shared that he has accepted the fight with Colby Covington. The fight is going to take place on July 30th at UFC 277 pay-per-view event.
“.@ColbyCovMMA July 30th i accept,” wrote Poirier.
