This weekend’s UFC 291 main event will see Dustin Poirier taking on Justin Gaethje for the coveted “BMF” title. Poirier, who defeated Gaethje at UFC in 2018, cautioned his opponent against turning their upcoming rematch into a technical battle.

At the UFC 291 media day, Dustin Poirier conveyed his confidence, stating, “It’s going to get rough. Like I said before, adversity will present itself in this fight, but I trust myself to get off the stool, keep myself safe, find the openings, pick my shots”. “I’ve matured a lot in this sport…,” he said. “…and I think you’re going to see it Saturday”.

When asked about Gaethje’s potential strategy for the fight, Poirier responded, “If he wants to technically kickbox with me and grapple with me – I think his best chances are to catch me being cr*zy and landing a shot”. “If he tries to take his time and be methodical, I’m going to show you levels, for sure,” said Poirier.

In their previous fight, Poirier defeated Gaethje through fourth-round TKO. However, both athletes have developed tremendously since then. Both fighters have previously contested Khabib Nurmagomedov and Charles Oliveira for the lightweight title. The victor of this much-awaited rematch is expected to receive a third chance at the title.
