Dustin Poirier recently raised concerns about the potential return of Conor McGregor to the UFC. The rumors claim that Conor will return without undergoing a drug test. Dustin warns that it could undermine the sport’s integrity. During an appearance on The MMA Hour, Poirier emphasized the need for consistency. He urged that McGregor should be subject to the same procedures as other fighters.
Ariel Helwani questioned about McGregor’s rumored challenge against Justin Gaethje for the ‘BMF’ title after UFC 291. Poirier stressed that a negative drug test should be a prerequisite for his comeback. “He needs to pass a drug test, you know? That’s what he needs to do… Yeah, he needs to pass a drug test,” Poirier emphasized.
Dustin further pointed out the importance of treating ‘The Notorious’ like any other fighter. He insists that the UFC should maintain the integrity of the sport. He cautioned the UFC against providing special treatment that could compromise the principles they’ve worked hard to uphold.
“If we change the rules for him to compete to sell some pay-per-views, I mean, we make a mockery of all this we put in place,” Dustin said. But they’re the judge and the jury, so they do what they wanna do, so we’ll see, man,” Poirier expressed.
Internet reacts to Dustin Poirier’s warning to UFC ahead of Conor McGregor’s potential return
The MMA community has not forgotten the rivalry that Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor share. Poirier was the last opponent McGregor locked heads with before the devastating leg injury at UFC 264. Here are some reactions from Twitter to Dustin Poirier‘s forewarning to the UFC ahead of McGregor’s potential return:
Poirier and McGregor’s trilogy fight ended in a rather unspectacular fashion. McGregor’s leg injury prohibited him for competing and he has not returned for a better part of two years. McGregor was potentially set to fight fellow TUF coach Michael Chandler as his comeback fight in the UFC. However, Poirier’s UFC 291 opponent Justin Gaethje has attracted the attention of the Irish UFC star. As discussions continue, it remains to be seen whether Conor McGregor will be granted a USADA exemption. Or whether the UFC will share Dustin Poirier’s perspective act on the importance of fairness and credibility in the sport.
