Dustin Poirier faced the surging contender Benoit Saint-Denis at UFC 299. Despite being the most experienced fighter, ‘The Diamond’ was labeled the underdog. Part of the reason was Saint-Denis’ track record in the UFC lightweight division- five straight finishes. As such, a fan placed a huge bet on the Frenchman. Unlucky for the fan, Poirier knocked out the ‘God of War.’
According to Draftkings, a bettor placed $120,000 on Benoit Saint-Denis to win against Dustin Poirier at UFC 299. The bet was also shown on the UFC PPV livestream. It had the potential to draw out a massive return of $175,045.87. But Dustin Poirier ruined the party for the fan as he knocked out Saint-Denis in the second round.
Dustin Poirier’s win didn’t come without grunt work. Benoit Saint-Denis, as usual, pushed the pace and poured it on the UFC veteran. After arguably losing the first round, the Frenchman continued his onslaught on Poirier in the second. However, ‘The Diamond’ weathered the storm to find an opening for his power punches. As such, he put Saint-Denis out cold on the UFC canvas with a right hand. Poirier promised a knockout ahead of the fight and stood by his words.
Dustin Poirier revived his dream of becoming the undisputed UFC champion with this win. Considering that Lousiana-born had a long career in the UFC, many doubted his aspirations of challenging for the title again. However, he proved them wrong with his performance. As for Benoit Saint-Denis, this was his first loss in the lightweight division.

Benoit Saint-Denis comfortably controlled Dustin Poirier for most of the first round using his wrestling skills. He even took the UFC veteran’s back and attacked rear naked choke. It all started because ‘The Diamond’ went for guillotine chokes upon takedown, leaving him in the bottom position as Saint-Denis escaped them easily. The second round followed the same tale until Poirier found his shots in standup.
Dustin Poirier landed some clean punches on Benoit Saint-Denis, and a right hand sealed the deal for him at the 2:32 second mark in the second round. Despite falling behind and facing constant adversity, Poirier’s experience helped him in securing the win. As such, he had bounced back from his knockout loss to Justin Gaethje and looked forward to attaining the undisputed gold.
