After his loss against Justin Gaethjhe, ‘The Diamond’ bounced back in his last fight and KOed Benoit Saint-Denis in the second round at UFC 299. This gave Poirier a lot of confidence, followed by his call-out to Islam Makhachev for the title shot. Dustin Poirier recently took to Instagram to share a picture of him inside a gym. The fighter was in training clothes ready to get into a tough session.

After the call-out, The Dagestani didn’t shy away and roasted Poirier for losing multiple opportunities to get his hands on the title. ‘The Diamond’ has fought for the lightweight title twice in his career and got submitted both times. Irrespective of having an incredible MMA career, the Louisiana native would like to have the champion status before retiring.

The back and forth between Makhachev has resulted in many fans including MMA experts backing the fight. If the fight gets scheduled, Poirier will definitely go in as a huge underdog. It would be a shocker if the fighter manages to do something unpredictable against Makhachev.
