Dustin Poirier put up an amazing performance at UFC 299. He put 27-year-old Benoit Saint-Denis to sleep in the second round of their co-main event. Even Poirier’s long-time rival Conor McGregor tweeted on X congratulating him for the fight. Poirier responded to it at the post-fight press conference. Here is what happened:

Conor McGregor tweeted “Great fight out of them French boys tonight! Toutes nos félicitations,” which translates to congratulations in French. The tweet was not expected by many in the MMA community. McGregor even tagged French President Emmanuel Macron in the tweet although unclear why. Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier have a history of bad blood. The two fighters have fought each other a total of three times. McGregor won the first fight while Poirier won the last two.

Dustin Poirier defeated Benoit Saint-Denis with a knockout at UFC 299. Poirier and Saint-Denis headlined the co-main at the Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida. He dominated the second round and used a brutal right hook along with a subsequent follow-up on the ground to knock out Saint-Denis. UFC CEO, Dana White praised Poirier for his performance. He even declared legendary status to Poirier for his willingness to step into the octagon against a young, hungry contender.

Dustin Poirier to fight Islam Makhachev in June

Dustin Poirier is a former interim lightweight champion. He was the underdog in his fight against Benoit Saint-Denis at UFC 299. However, Poirier won by knockout and even bagged the Fight of the Night. Ali Abdelaziz is the manager of the current lightweight champion, Islam Makhachev. He has offered Poirier the chance to fight Islam Makhachev for the undisputed title in June.

Abdelaziz tweeted that Dustin Poirier took a huge risk at UFC 299 and came out on top. He complimented Poirier and said that he looked amazing. Tagging Islam Makhachev, he put forward the proposal for a fight in June. Abdelaziz wrote that if the UFC is good with the matchup then Islam would like to take on Poirier.

Meanwhile, Dustin Poirier took to X himself where he tweeted “Islam in June”. It will be interesting to see if Dana White grants Dustin Poirier a title shot against Makhachev and how that matchup turns out in the octagon.
