Eddie Alvarez recently fought fellow former UFC fighter Chad Mendes in the co-main event of BKFC 41. Both fighters put on a great show and Alvarez won through a split decision victory. Eddie’s wife Jamie was present at the event and showed her support by screaming and cheering during his performance. While Jamie certainly knows how to support her husband, she also once saved Eddie Alvarez in a street fight. In his interview with Chael Sonnen, Alvarez narrated the entire story.
Former UFC fighter Chael Sonnen, known for his epic trash-talking abilities, interviewed Eddie Alvarez on his Beyond the Fight show. Chael Sonnen started by enquiring Alvarez why was he fighting a guy while his wife fought another. Sonnen also added another question, asking if that incident was how he knew he would end up marrying her. Eddie Alvarez laughed and started narrating his story.
According to Alvarez, he got into a fight outside of his neighborhood and was seemingly winning the fight. He was then kicked by someone in the face and another guy had pulled a gun on him. In this situation, Eddie was helped by his now wife instead of his friends. “My wife immediately, when I got kicked, jumped on the guy’s back and started punching. My friends didn’t do sh*t. I thought my friends were gonna have my back, but the girl that I just started dating had my back immediately, ” said Eddie Alvarez. He also answered Chael’s second question and stated during that moment he knew Jamie was the girl for him.
Eddie Alvarez has, on many occasions, stated that his wife supported him throughout his fighting journey. Alvarez brings his wife to all of his matches and doesn’t separate her from the sport. The couple has been married since 2008 and has 4 children together.

Eddie Alvarez in denial about his altercation in Russia
Before fighting in big MMA organizations, Eddie Alvarez fought for Bogdog Fighting Championships. Chael Sonnen was another fighter who fought for the same promotion. Chael recalled a ‘mostly true’ story of Eddie’s incident with a Russian mobster. Eddie Alvarez and Chael were attending a party in Russia after their Bogdog fight card. During the party, some guy hits a ring card girl and Eddie simply knocks him out.
The guy turns out to be a connected gangster whose boss was throwing the supposed party. While the guy he beat up was connected, nothing happened to Eddie Alvarez. However, Chael revealed a rumor that meant otherwise. “The rumor was that the way that these mobsters handled it was that they took Eddie out somewhere, dug a hole. They explained to him if he ever did it again, he would end up in the hole,” said Sonnen. This was an ongoing rumor for nearly 15 years.
Chael later confronted Eddie about the ongoing urban legend. Eddie revealed that he was in on the story but denies it ever happened. While Eddie was in complete denial of the event, Chael still believed it might have happened.
