Featherweight fighters Edson Barboza and Billy Quarantillo competed in the co-main event of UFC on ESPN 44. Quarantillo started the fight with pressure striking and grappling, but it did not end well for him. In the third minute of the fight, Edson Barboza landed a quick knee strike to get the stoppage victory.
In the post-fight interview with Daniel Cormier, Barboza appeared all fired up, thanks to the Kansas City fans providing a cheerful atmosphere. He revealed that he and his Muay-Thai coach had trained for the fight-ending sequence during his training camp. However, after the interview, Barboza met with Billy Quarantillo and his coaches to show how easy it was to predict the takedown, which enabled him to land the knockout knee strike.
Quarantillo started the fight with plenty of pressure, putting Barboza on his back foot. Quarantillo landed some excellent shots applying pressure, but Barboza was waiting for the perfect time to land the knee strike. It is yet another setback for Quarantillo, who got the stoppage victory over Alexander Hernandez in December of 2022. Hopefully, Barboza’s advice can help Quarantillo rectify his mistakes.
Barboza now moves to a 3-3 record as a Featherweight. In 2020, he had moved down in weight to accomplish his dream of fighting for a World title. However, the road has been rocky so far. It has not stopped him from knocking out opponents, even at the age of 37. Fight fans will look forward to UFC booking the next fight of Edson Barboza.
Edson Barboza knocked out Beneil Dariush and Billy Quarantillo in similar fashion
The veteran Brazilian striker Barboza is known for his striking skills. He overwhelms fighters with various kicks and a flurry of strikes during his fights. Once again at UFC on ESPN 44, Barboza showcased his striking skills that knocked out Billy Quarantillo in a brutal fashion.
The knockout of Quarantillo reminded fight fans of how he knocked out Beneil Dariush in 2017. Quarantillo got knocked out going for a takedown, and Dariush lowered his posture to attempt a takedown but got knocked out by Barboza similarly.
The quick reaction time of Barboza remains the crucial aspect of each knockout. He is among the highly skilled Muay-Thai strikers to grace the Octagon. Fight fans expressed their happiness seeing him fight at a high level, even in his late thirties.
