Elon Musk has pledged to fund legal challenges against the pending Irish hate speech legislation. He expressed concerns about its potential impact on free speech.

Pointing out the problem in the bill, Elon Musk said:

The thing we should be concerned about is if the Irish parliament passes a bill that defines hate speech as whatever they think hate speech is. People should be extremely concerned about that. You're just at the mercy of the ruling party and whatever bureaucrats they put in place. And they can just define something that really is not hate speech as hate speech just because they don't like it.

Conor McGregor thanked Elon Musk on X for his consistent support on the matter. He expressed his appreciation and wrote that the people of Ireland will never tolerate any draconian/corruptible bills being passed into law. Ending his message to Elon, Conor wrote: 

A silly and weak attempt to silence opposition opinion is what this is and WE SAY NO! We will fight this all the way if it is attempted to be pushed forward. We will fight it and we will win. Thank you Elon, as we say in Ireland, fair play!

The proposed legislation is a part of the Prohibition of Incitement to Hatred Act 1989. It criminalizes intentional or reckless communication likely to incite violence or hatred based on race, gender, or religion. Critics argue it may extend to memes and make it illegal to possess ‘reckless’ content.
