Conor McGregor is the highest-paid MMA fighter of all time. However, ex-UFC fighter Brendan Schaub felt he was underpaid. Fight earnings and other successful business ventures are the main source of his massive income. In fact, he topped the Forbes list of highest-paid athletes in 2021.

Brendan Schaub made some startling claims about the pay of Conor McGregor on his YouTube channel. Interestingly, Schaub has clashed with the UFC brass in the past. Moreover, he has criticized Dana White on numerous occasions. This is what Schaub said about McGregor’s pay:

Nobody's more underpaid than Conor McGregor ... if you look at what Conor’s brought into the UFC. Money-wise, the ticket sales, merch, pay-per-views, and the look at the amount that he was paid. He's the most underpaid athlete, probably of all time.

Having established a significant following, Schaub labeled McGregor as UFC’s most valuable asset. Schaub further detailed the Irishman’s effect. He emphasized how he helped the promotion generate money through merchandise and pay-per-view ticket sales. He also attributed a significant amount of the organization’s success to McGregor’s influence in his prime days.

It makes sense, as even Dana White has said the same thing several times about the ‘Mystic Mac.’ When McGregor became the champion in 2015, he became the major attraction of the promotion. Throughout the years, the fighter has helped the promotion to get millions of fans. McGregor has also given UFC some of the biggest PPV events, including the iconic UFC 229.

Dana White reveals if Conor McGregor lost his motivation

Conor McGregor rose through the ranks as a hungry lion during his early days. The fighter found enormous success through his hard work and dedication. He became the first simultaneous double champion. Over the years, fans have claimed that the fighter lost his motivation after becoming a millionaire.

Dana White recently addressed the difficulty of booking McGregor’s return. Though fans felt McGregor lost motivation, the UFC CEO revealed having millions change one’s mind. In the podcast episode with Henry Cejudo and Kamaru Usman, this is what White said:

Once you start to make a lot of money. You are not as hungry as you used to be before. And it is harder to get in the gym and it does suck to f******* grind as hard as you used to do.

White claimed McGregor had multiple commitments that further delayed his UFC comeback. However, he also claimed McGregor would return this year back into the octagon. The Irishman has recently started training again after promoting his Hollywood debut. Only time will tell if McGregor returns to the UFC this year.
