In a sport where the ideal goal is to make sure your opponent ends up unconscious it doesn’t take much to be the nice guy. Mark Muñoz however went above and beyond during his MMA run to solidify his status as the friendly neighborhood fighter everyone could rely on. He did this by opening his own gym, running multiple community service-based tutorials and just overall being the ideal person to have as a neighbor.

After his UFC run, he continued showing his love for the community and took up the mantle of a high school wrestling coach to fulfill these duties. However recently the same job that he took to give back to the community, has got him in hot waters. According to a report by TMZ Sports, the former UFC star who took up a job as the high-school wrestling coach for Fairmont Private Schools was placed on administrative leave after a recent incident involving two students being allowed to box under his supervision have come out.

According to sources close to Muñoz, the entire situation started when two of the students at the high school he coached at had a tussle/ disagreement and later came up to him asking to be provided with boxing gloves. According to the source, Muñoz was unaware of any disagreement or prior dispute among the two students and thought the request was more friendly rather than anything boiling out of enmity.

The 44-year-old former Mixed Martial Artist then let the students duke it out under his supervision an affair that he allegedly described as a “jovial sparring session.” However the parents of the students didn’t see it that way and when made aware of what happened, immediately approached the school administration seeking answers.

Mark Muñoz was then placed on administrative leave as a result of the scandal with a spokesperson for the school saying, “Muñoz will not be returning to campus” as his contract for the role of wrestling coach will end along with the school year and he won’t be assigned a new one.

While in the UFC, Mark Muñoz had faced the top fighters of his time in Lyoto Machida, and Gegard Mousasi, and even secured a victory over Demian Maia
