Alex Pereira won the light-heavyweight championship just moments ago. He beat Jiri Prochazka in the second round by TKO. After this win, he wasted no time in calling out his arch-rival Israel Adesanya in his post-fight presentation. Now, Adesanya came up with a reply to the newly crowned champion.
Israel Adesanya posted a picture of Alex Pereira on Twitter and told him to let it go. It was a picture of Pereira lying on the UFC canvas after getting knocked out by ‘The Last Stylebender.’ He edited Pereira with blonde hair from Elsa from the movie ‘Frozen.’ This referenced Adesanya’s famous quote when he mocked Alex Pereira in the UFC 276 press conference. He said that he would leave ‘Pereira Frozen like Elsa,’ and he did knock him out in UFC 287.
The rivalry between these two fighters dates back to 2016, when they fought for the first time in a kickboxing bout. Now, after seven years, the enmity between them hasn’t ended. They fought twice in kickboxing, which Alex Pereira won, and two more times in the UFC, which they shared 1-1. As such, a trilogy would settle the score in the UFC.
Although Alex Pereira won the light-heavyweight title, Israel Adesanya just lost his middleweight title in UFC 293. As such, he lost to Sean Strickland via unanimous decision. After this loss, he said he would be out of the sport for a long time. So, the trilogy might not happen soon. Also, since they compete at different weight classes now, it would be a much tougher task.
Fans react to Israel Adesanya’s response to Alex Pereira’s callout in UFC 295.
Alex Pereira accomplished a huge feat in UFC 295 as he became a two-division UFC champion. He won the middleweight in November 2022, and now he won the light-heavyweight title. After winning the title, he called out his middleweight rival Israel Adesanya. The last style bender responded to his callout on Twitter.
Israel Adesanya said that he would take a long break from fighting after losing his title to Sean Strickland. So, he didn’t accept the callout from Alex Pereira and trolled him on Twitter. Fans had mixed reactions to his tweet. Here are a few interesting reactions:
Many trolled Israel Adesanya back for this post, but a few sided towards him. They both were matched in UFC 281 for the first time in MMA for the middleweight championship. Israel Adesanya was the champion, and Alex Pereira finished him in the fifth round to win the middleweight gold. The rematch was booked for UFC 287, in which Adesanya reclaimed his throne by knocking out Pereira in the second round. A trilogy would be awesome, but the possibility of getting it is less.
