Jared Cannonier entered this bout coming off a loss to Israel Adesanya in their title showdown in July. Jared Cannonier, however, got back to winning ways earlier after narrowly defeating striker Sean Strickland.

With leg kicks and strong crosses, Cannonier launched an early aggressive attack. Strickland regained some momentum in the second round by applying pressure up front, but Cannonier once again changed the course of the fight in the third with powerful right hands.

With Cannonier relying too heavily on his power in the fourth round, Strickland’s production increased. In the fifth, Cannonier retaliated, but Strickland’s punch kept him in the game. The judges gave Cannonier two verdicts of 49–46, while one judge gave Strickland a verdict of 49–46. In the end, the decision went in favor of Jared Cannonier edging past Strickland on split decision.

This middleweight bout was the final UFC  fight of the calendar year. Jared Cannonier has managed to get some much-needed momentum to sign off the year. However, many fans believed that the main event fight of UFC Vegas 66 was boring and didn’t live up to the benchmark set by other fighters in the year 2022. So let’s take a look at fans’ and other MMA fighters’ views on the fight.

Even though this wasn’t his best performance, Jared Cannonier managed to perform well enough to maintain his position in the middleweight top 5 ranking. However, If Cannonier wants to get back in the middleweight title picture, he may need to gain some more serious momentum and display some dominance in his future outing.
