It helps boost PPV sales. UFC has utilized trash-talking to promote fights throughout its history. However, no one had an impact like Conor McGregor.

When asked who is the greatest trash talker on Twitter, fans put ‘Mystic Mac’s’ name in the bucket. Conor McGregor, throughout his career, trash-talked his opponents to gain a mental advantage before the fights. McGregor broke Jose Aldo with his trash-talk in 2015. Aldo had a 10-year winning streak in before running into the Irishman. McGregor gained a mental edge and knocked out Aldo in thirteen seconds.

During his media day appearances for his boxing bout with Floyd Mayweather, fans witnessed McGregor destroying Mayweather with insane lines. McGregor’s iconic lines landed perfectly and left the fans amazed. “He’s 40. You’re 40 years of age. Dress your f**cking age. Carrying a school bag on stage. What are you doing with a school bag on stage? You can’t even read.” said McGregor. A famous parody account of legendary NFL player Shannon Sharpe posted the video. The account is known for posting iconic and hilarious moments in sports.

The Irishman and Nate Diaz went on CNBC to promote their fight at UFC 196. McGregor stole the show with witty one-liners on national television. Fans posted a compilation of Conor trash-talking his opponents on Twitter. Despite McGregor being on a downward trajectory since 2016, he manages to reel in a large crowd whenever he fights. No other UFC fighter managed to impact the sport of MMA as McGregor did.
