Alexa Grasso shocks the world by becoming the new women’s flyweight champion at UFC 285. Going into the fight, Valentina Shevchenko was the fan favorite due to her past record but things came out way different. From the start of the fight, both Shevchenko and Grasso kept the fight on their feet and Grasso was getting comfortable.
During the exchanges, Grasso was gradually connecting more frequent shots. This forced the champion to change her strategy and go for takedowns which she did. Shevchenko dominated Grasso on the ground and Grasso was struggling with her takedown defense.
As the fight proceeded, Shevchenko was ahead in the points and was expected to sail through the fight to successfully defend her belt. However, in the fourth round Shevchenko missed a spinning back kick and Grasso was quick to get a rear naked hold. It was incredible and the arena went wild as Shevchenko was forced to tap out.

Alexa Grasso did the impossible and became the third-ever Mexican UFC champion of all time. Grssso impressed a lot of fight fans with her grit and determination to win the fight even in the last rounds.
Grasso in the post-fight interview mentioned that she worked extremely hard to get the job done at the biggest platform. She was emotional and couldn’t believe what she did but the whole world saw it and they couldn’t stop complimenting the new champion.
