At Shooto Brasil Boxing 2, which took place on July 2 in Rio de Janeiro, José Aldo earned a unanimous decision victory over Esteban Espindola for his second victory as a professional boxer.

During his stint as the WEC and UFC featherweight champion, the 36-year-old’s smooth striking made him one of the most exciting and dangerous fighters in the sport, and it didn’t take long for him to start hitting major shots on Espindola in their six-round contest.

Esteban Espindola gave a tough challenge and was holding up pretty well until the Argentine tried to make it an MMA bout. Espindola in order to evade Aldo’s punches grabbed the Brazilian and was about to take him down. Espindola’s attempts to force a decision failed to alter the outcome, and Aldo was given the victory with a score of 60–54 on all three judges’ scorecards.
