Dustin Poirier is one of the most liked people on the entire UFC roster – that being said, his latest actions have caught even his most loyal fans by surprise.
Poirier went into UFC 281 at Madison Square Garden as the overwhelming favourite to get the nod over fellow lightweight Michael Chandler. Despite being outclassed in the second round, Poirier was able to rally back and deliver one of the tightest rear naked chokes. Even his post-fight octagon interview had a little zap to it – speaking to Joe Rogan, he said, “Who ain’t got Jiu Jitsu?” in a nod of disapproval at Islam Makhachev’s previous comments.
However, now, something else has surfaced which has taken fans by surprise. At the end of their fight, keeping in mind the claims of “fish-hooking” made by Poirier towards Chandler, the two exchanged steely words. The exchange is prefaced by Chandler coming in to embrace the Louisianan, only then to be pushed away, followed by the words, “This is my house. You f***ing stuck your fingers in my mouth. You know what you did. I know and respect everything you have done, but this is my house.”
To this, Michael Chandler hilariously replied, “Which one? Madison Square Garden? The Modelo sign? If I come over and try to f***ing squash it and you still… you’re a douche.” This was then followed by what seemed like a tense embrace. in their interviews post-fight, it hardly seemed like everything was water under the bridge.
Fans not happy with Dustin Poirier’s behaviour after his fight with Michael Chandler at UFC 281
Needless to say, fans found Dustin Poirier’s words unnecessarily boastful and uncalled for. Despite Michael Chandler’s attempts at amity, the former stuck to his guns, which enraged fans. Hence, they called him out for it on Twitter. The best reactions are attached below.
Despite the condemnation of the fans, Dustin Poirier has notched up yet another win in the lightweight division. He has fought for the title twice, but if he gets another win under his belt (possibly against Justin Gaethje) he might just find himself fighting for the title yet again.
