The fan-favorite Petr Yan faced yet another defeat at UFC Las Vegas. The bantamweight division’s former champion was completely shut down by Merab Dvalishvili’s dominant performance this weekend.

Merab Dvalishvili is on course to fight for the bantamweight title and had to pass the Petr Yan test. The Georgian came out of the battle with flying colors by putting on a relentless performance against a former champ. UFC hosted the latest Fight Night at The Theater at Virgin Hotels in Las Vegas. Dvalishivili won the fight via unanimous decision.

When Petr Yan became the bantamweight champion in 2020, fans thoroughly believed that the Russian was going to be holding the belt for a long time. The illegal knee disqualification against Aljamain Sterling has turned out to be very costly for the exciting Yan.

Following his loss in the title fight to Sterling in 2021, Yan has won only one of his last three fights. His latest performance against Merab showed the fighters struggle against opponents with relentless wrestling. Fans were devastated seeing the favorite get ragdolled by the rising bantamweight.

Merab Dvalishvili had the judges score the contest 50-45 in his favor at UFC Las Vegas. Yan is now on a three-fight losing streak since his win against Cory Sandhagen at UFC 267 back in 2021. The fighter has faced Aljamain Sterling, Sean O’Malley, and Merab since then.

Petr Yan’s exciting striking skills earned him a huge name among the UFC fanbase. Fans were excited to see Yan bounce back from his poor run in the fight against Merab. Many fans were devastated to see their favorite fighter go on a 1-4 record and reacted to this loss on Twitter.

It is still not clear who Petr Yan could take on next. With the former flyweight champ, Deiveson Figueiredo looking to fight at 135 pounds, fans believe that is the matchup to make.
