While almost the entire world wrote off Leon Edwards, there was one man in the commentary booth who reminded the world of Rocky’s character and Jon Anik could not have timed his words better during the UFC 278 main event fight.
Leon Edwards was met with all kinds of adversities during his first-ever title fight in the UFC against the pound-for-pound champion, Kamaru Usman in the main event of UFC 278. The fight took place at the Vivint Arena in Salt Lake City, Utah and the entire arena was almost certain that Usman was on his way to yet another comfortable title defense. Even the commentary team which had, Joe Rogan and Daniel Cormier, were convinced that Leon was done with his shot at the title.
Before Edwards pulled off the stunning victory against Usman with a devastating high kick knockout in the final minute of the fight, Rogan and DC were talking about how Leon looked like he has given up on the fight. “He may have resigned himself from losing a decision,” were the exact words from Rogan while DC resonated with the same thoughts. Jon Anik, however, came out with one of the finest lines in mixed martial arts history, “But that is not the cloth from which he is cut…” as he backed Leon.

Right after those amazing words of praise towards Leon came out of Jon’s mouth during the final minute of the fight, Leon pulled off a devastating head kick that sent the pound-for-pound champion to the canvas ending his dominant reign in the UFC’s welterweight division. Jon will go down in the history books for his amazing work in the commentary booth over the years.
Fans could not help but praise the veteran for his amazing work. Anik is one of the fan favorites to listen to in the com-box as he always shows amazing composure while his peers lose their minds during some amazing moments of the fight. Jon himself thanks his fans for the words of praise after the PPV event with his tweet and said, “So grateful for all your feedback and comments on the broadcast. What a moment, That’s tops for me in 11 years on the ufc cans.”
