Former MMA star Alistair Overeem has been a mainstay in combat sports for a long time. He had a decade long run with the UFC and his last in the promotion took place in 2021.
He lost that fight to Alexander Volkov by TKO in the second round. Alistair Overeem was released by the UFC after that loss. He has since found his way to the kickboxing promotion Glory, which is the former stomping ground of middleweights Israel Adesanya and Alex Pereira.
While Alistair Overeem had a successful start to his career at Glory with a win over Badr Hari, he has now tested positive for a banned substance. This is not the first time for Overeem though. Barely a year into his UFC tenure, the man many fans dubbed “Ubereem” because of his unnaturally gifted physique, failed his pre-fight drug test. He was set to take on Junior Dos Santos in a title fight from which he was pulled and replaced by Frank Mir.
The news of him testing positive after his bout at Glory was first broken by Dutch news outlet De Telegraaf. Overeem’s case is still under investigation and no punishment or fines have been levied on the former UFC star as of now. However, given his history with PEDs, things do not look too good for “Ubereem”.
Fans react as Alistair Overeem’s positive drug test becomes public knowledge
Alistair Overeem was subject to “Ubereem” memes because of his impressive physique that made him look like a walking billboard. While many accused him of steroids, he denied the allegations, claiming he ate horse meat which helped him build such a body. Now, with another failed drug test, this time in Glory, fans had a field day reacting to the news. Here are some of the best reactions from Twitter:
