Ali Abdelaziz goes off on the geopolitical situation around the globe affecting his fighters from the Russian region. The Dominance MMA founder believes people should learn to separate politics from the fighters.
Recently, the Russia-Ukraine war has caused a lot of trouble around the world. A war of such magnitude affects everything, even the fighters of that region. The UFC has a lot of fighters who originate from the regions of Dagestan, Chechnya, and the Caucuses. Ali Abdelaziz, the founder and President of Dominance MMA is the manager of many Russian fighters. Abdelaziz recently spoke about the situation around the world involving the war, making it tough for Russian fighters to travel around the world to pursue their fighting career.
“This whole political thing affecting a lot of Russian athletes, especially guys from Dagestan, Chechnya and the Caucuses, and nobody talking about it. It’s sad because these guys did nothing wrong. It’s extremely hard to get Visas for these guys,” wrote Abdelaziz defending his fighters from Russia. Ali is the manager of several champions like Khabib Nurmagomedov, Islam Makhachev, Kamaru Usman, Henry Cejudo, and others.

A lot of American fans were outraged by Ali’s opinions. Several fans pointed out that none of the Russian fighters use their platform in the UFC to call out their leaders from invading other countries. Khabib, who was a former champion, has always been very active with press conferences but has never addressed the current war between Russia and Ukraine. Khamzat Chimaev is a fighter from Chechnya but fighting out of Sweden. Khamzat has a very close relationship with Ramzan Kadyrov, who is the dictator of Chechnya.
“This whole political thing” Oh you mean war? Where citizen gets tortured and killed. But you’re right, so sad some guys can’t do international sports…” wrote a fan pointing out that the war is not just another “political thing”.
“Really? They were mostly so proud to appear next to Ramzan Khadirov and promote his mma organization, so how can you say that he is not our friend?” wrote another fan talking about fighters from Chechnya often paying visits to meet the warlord.
