Khamzat Chimaev had a controversial moment that netizens have now resurfaced on Twitter. The Chechen fighter faced a challenging situation during the UFC 267 weigh-ins when he struggled to meet the welterweight limit.

‘Borz,’ initially rested his arms on the towel during his first attempt, registering a weight of 171.5 pounds. This was slightly over the required 171 pounds. Given an hour to cut down the extra weight, Chimaev returned to the scales. This time leaning on the towel and surprisingly weighing in at 165 pounds.

There were whispers of disbelief in the room as the UFC authorities conducting the weigh-in were plainly astonished by this sharp reduction in weight. When Chimaev was invited to make a third effort, things swiftly changed. He was told to lift his hands this time and keep them away from the towel. Thankfully, at 171 pounds, he was able to reach the welterweight limit.

Fans expressed worries about the fairness of making weight in combat sports. They recollected a similar event with Daniel Cormier when he attempted a similar technique. This contentious weigh-in highlighted the debates around the technique and its effects on the competitors and the sport. Fans are still talking about the event on Twitter two years later.
