Back in 2018, Lyoto Machida faced off against Vitor Belfort at UFC 224. The two Brazilian middleweights went to war against each other and Lyoto Machida knocked out Vitor Belfort with a front kick.

Machida’s fight against Belfort was his first after much time away from the octagon. The two fought at Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, their home ground and Lyoto Machida landed a left kick right in front of Vitor Belfort. The fight was in the first minute of the second round and the kick knocked out Vitor Belfort and thus ending the career of the mixed martial arts legend.

Many pointed out that the front kick knockout was the exact same one that Anderson Silva landed on Belfort back in 2011. Following this, the then 41-year-old Vitor Belfort places his gloves on the octagon symbolizing his retirement from the UFC. The Brazilian legend had a long and illustrious career since the age of 19 back in 1997. “Everything in life has a beginning, middle, and end,” Belfort said. “It’s time for me to take care of my family and endeavors.”

Lyoto Machida did not follow through after the kick since he realized that Belfort was clearly out. He shows respect for the legend and bows down, following the creeds of his martial arts instructions.
