Francis Ngannou wants to pursue a career in boxing. He has made it clear for a long time and signed with the PFL to fulfill his wishes. The former UFC champion will fight in an exhibition boxing bout later this year before making his PFL debut next year. According to sources, he could fight WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury for his debut.
After disagreeing on a contract for the Oleksandr Usyk fight, Fury remains without an opponent. He fought twice last year against Dillion Whyte and Dereck Chisora. There are discussions about having a gigantic event in Saudi Arabia featuring the top boxers in a tournament. Tyson Fury would face Usyk, whereas Deontay Wilder will take on Anthony Joshua. However, it has yet to materialize fully.
On the other hand, Francis Ngannou could secure a massive payout with a fight against any of the top boxers in the world. The former UFC champion remains hopeful of a huge boxing clash before the end of the year. Famed journalist Ariel Helwani wrote, “Tyson Fury x Francis Ngannou is expected to be announced very soon, per sources.” Helwani remains a reputed source in combat sports. Hence, there is a definite possibility of the bout happening at some point this year.
There were discussions about Ngannou to the grand boxing card in Saudi Arabia. However, the promoters deemed Ngannou to be highly expensive. Dana White has criticized Ngannou’s attempts to box on multiple occasions, even calling it a gimmick fight. However, fight fans remain interested in Ngannou’s attempts to box.
