Robert Whittaker looks to bounce back with a vengeance at UFC 298. In the co-main event on Feb. 17, at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. The ex-middleweight champ takes on Paulo Costa. Speaking at the UFC Q&A session at the UFC 298 pre-fight conference, Whittaker made a stunning prediction of hurting the rival, trusting his mettle, at UFC 298. Costa, however, is as carefree as ever.

‘Borrachinha’ and his opponent, have both been hyping up fans for their middleweight clash. Whittaker more so than the Brazilian. Other than that, Costa maintains his usual jovial disposition as the self-proclaimed meme-maker. From hilariously rebounding from a sabotage scare. To trolling to sign his fight contract; the fighter does it all. Now comes another gem in this string.

Knowing his funny demeanor and online engagements, a fan account on X (@Rafaelbprestes) gibed at Costa for pulling out. Moreover, they even made a mock petition to apparently ‘kill Costa if he pulls out of UFC 298‘. Paulo Costa, as is his usual trait, reposted the comment, revealing that there’s no signature yet. A fan reaction mocked – “Please focus .. Hobbit Hittaker is no joke“.

The slated matchup did nothing to inspire hope in the fans. Concurrently, the series of taunts and jokes from Costa didn’t help. Speaking to Mike Owens of MiddleEasy.com, Whittaker had commended Costa on being a big powerful puncher he has to overcome. However, the fight bubble does not share his surefire confidence about the Brazilian.

Fight fans react to Paulo Costa’s queasy poking at fan memes, before UFC 298

One fight away from silencing his critics, Paulo Costa is back in action. Many fans, peers, and MMA pundits have been a constant source of ridicule for his numerous withdrawals over the years. Costa was forced to pull out of UFC 294 due to a serious staph infection. Despite publicizing his visually disturbing injury, he still caught a lot of flack from fans.

Now he faces middleweight peer, Robert Whittaker at UFC 298 next. However, matching his jovial and bantering energy, fans have come up with a dangerous petition, should he pull out yet again. Much to Costa’s dismay, that is.

And here’s how a few fans have reacted to Costa poking fun on the matter –

Costa has had five bouts canceled/rebooked in the past couple of years. Barring UFC 294, 4 of those have been withdrawals on his terms, mostly due to failed fight purse negotiations.

Accordingly, fans have sternly said that this would be his 5th willing pullout. Some have, however, engaged in the deriding and jeering of the fighter, wishing to sign the petition. Come later this month, if Costa does pull out, there is a high chance that the trivial petition might just hold.
