“We can’t be letting pedophiles out”- Former UFC fighter is furious over court’s decision in Cain Velasquez’s shoot out case
Cain Velasquez
Irrespective of his righteous reasons, Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez might suffer for much longer than expected because of his rage. Velasquez, who last fought in 2019 and left the sport sadly due in the wake of his consistent injuries, was one of the most decorated champions in the history of the company.
Velasquez, a heavyweight who used to strike with the speed of lighter weight classes, owns victories over the likes of Travis Browne, Junior Dos Santos, Brock Lesnar, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Ben Rothwell, Chieck Congo, and many more. Velasquez, aged 39, was arrested back on February 28, 2022, after allegedly chasing down the man by the name of Harry Eugene Golarte, who is being charged with molesting a young relative of Velasquez.
After chasing him down, Velasquez shot Golarte’s vehicle per the Santa Clara County District Attorney. Another person in Golarte’s car, Paul Bender, his stepfather, was shot by Velasquez’s gun in the arm and torso. However, Bender suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
“It breaks my heart to see him have to go through this”– Josh Thompson offers his support to Cain Velasquez’s family in these tough times
Cain was arrested without bail for this incident, and he has been declared a risk to public safety. Many MMA fighters came in support of the former champ, and former UFC contender, Josh Thompson believes the entire justice system failed him.
Talking to MMA Junkie, Josh said, “It breaks my heart to see him have to go through this. I think that the justice system failed his son in this situation. They failed him as a law-abiding citizen and then he went out and took it into his own hands. It’s really sad, but hopefully something happens that we can start remedying this situation nationwide, not just locally.”
“We can’t be letting pedophiles out, sex offenders out with no bail, especially back to a daycare-type setting where this guy lives. And so it’s sad. It really is, but all you can do is support him and be there for him and his wife and his kids and his family and wish them all the best and just be there if they call. That’s all we can do,” Josh concluded.
