Anthony Johnson
On November 13th, Anthony Johnson, an MMA legend, tragically passed away at the age of 38. While the cause of his death is yet to be known, Johnson had been dealing with an undisclosed illness for a very long-time. The news of Johnson’s death took social media by storm, after which it was confirmed by many verified sources.
A veteran of 29-fights in the cage, Johnson was scheduled to compete for the Bellator Light Heavyweight title in September last year. However, the now-late fighter pulled out of the bout citing medical issues. The health issues Johnson dealt with, persisted for over a year, after which his manager Ali Abdelaziz asked fans to pray for the fighter.
During an interview with ESPN in October 2022, Abdelaziz said, “Rumble, he’s going through some health problems right now. It’s very sad. I think I want everybody to pray for him. Pray for Anthony. It’s not going well. He’s very strong, spiritually. But pray for him.”
While Anthony Johnson never disclosed his health issues in public, the fighter always put on a brave face. In fact, in May, ‘Rumble’ shared an image on his Instagram that detailed he was making improvements concerning his health.
However, after a long and brave battle, the legendary light heavyweight is no more among us. Even though Johnson could never win UFC gold, the fighter will be remembered for some epic victories over the likes of Glover Teixeira, Andrei Arlovski, and Ryan Bader to name a few. To sum it up, Johnson will go down as one of the most powerful and likable fighters in MMA history.
