Francis Ngannou recently signed with the PFL after testing free agency for several months. He cited unfavorable contractual terms as the reason for leaving the UFC. Despite leaving the UFC, Ngannou and Dana White continue to trade shots at each other. Ngannou went on the Dan Le Batard show to reveal Dana White and the UFC’s malicious intent toward him.
Francis Ngannou said, “They used some kind of dirty game there, freeze me out, they knew how much I was getting per fight. It wasn’t much at all, few pennies. They knew I couldn’t make a living out of it so I had to come back and accept that contract. That was after the Junior dos Santos fight in June 2019. One of the things that was hard about that as well was the pressure they were putting on [me]. I’m just me, and they are them. They are massive.“
Ngannou revealed the dirty games employed to make his living harder. Ultimately, Ngannou refused to re-sign with the UFC toward the end of 2022. He defeated Stipe Miocic in 2021 to win the heavyweight title. At UFC 270, he made his first title defense against Ciryl Gane.
In May 2023, he signed with the PFL, where the contract allows him to pursue boxing bouts. Ngannou will make his PFL debut in 2024. He will compete in an exhibition boxing bout this year to test his skill as a boxer. He revealed the malicious intent behind the UFC as the primary reason for leaving the company. It remains to be seen how Dana White will respond to these allegations.
Randy Couture excited about Francis Ngannou in the PFL
Former UFC champion Randy Couture is happy for Ngannou after signing with the PFL. Couture cited the importance of testing the free agency market to determine the worth of a fighter. The legendary fighter talked about the favorable terms in the contract as the deciding factor for Ngannou.
Couture said, “It was about these other things and the PFL was happy to step up and make it more worth Francis’ while, to give him a voice, to make him part of the athlete’s advisory board, to make him the chairman of the PFL on the continent where he grew up. I think those were all huge factors for our sport.“
Francis Ngannou trains in the MMA gym owned by Randy Couture under Erik Nicksik. Couture and Erik helped Ngannou improve his wrestling to dethrone Stipe Miocic as the heavyweight champion in 2021. Couture is excited to see what the future holds for Francis Ngannou.
