Francis Ngannou believed he could retire from combat sports without facing Jon Jones in a fight. Ngannou, one of the most prominent figures in combat sports globally, made significant headlines when he voluntarily departed from the UFC. The former UFC heavyweight champion made it clear that his decision wasn’t solely about financial gain; he chose to explore other opportunities rather than fight for the money the promotion was offering.
However, his departure from MMA came right after Jon Jones decided to come back, raising many questions about whether Ngannou was scared to fight Jones. In an interview with Fight Hub TV, Ngannou recently confirmed that he still wants to fight Jones inside an MMA octagon.
“I don’t feel like I need, I feel like I want . I want, it’s not a need,” said Ngannou savagely when asked if he needed to fight Jones before calling it quits. “What do you mean how I match up? Well put us in the octagon and you will find out.”
Ngannou gave the interview after his open workout ahead of his boxing debut against heavyweight champion Tyson Fury in Saudi Arabia. While many claim it’s just a cash grab for the Cameroonian-French, Ngannou is confident that he will knockout Fury.
Francis Ngannou accuses Tyson Fury of cheating with gloves
Tyson Fury and Francis Ngannou are gearing up for their highly anticipated crossover boxing match, scheduled for about a month from now. However, there has been a surprising turn of events in the lead-up. Initially, Fury seemed on track to fight Oleksandr Usyk for the undisputed titles, but those plans fell through due to failed negotiations. Instead, Fury has chosen to take on former UFC champion Ngannou, who recently left the MMA organization.
Throughout this rivalry, both fighters have been respectful towards each other. Ngannou has thanked Fury for giving him that opportunity and legendary Mike Tyson to train with the ‘Predator’.
Nonetheless, Fury is worried that there might be some truth to Deontay Wilder’s past accusations against the WBC champion. He has issued a new cautionary message to his opponent in anticipation of their upcoming bout. During his interview with Joe Rogan, Ngannou mentioned that Fury might be cheating and they should check his gloves before the fight.
