Georges St-Pierre is one of the greatest mixed martial artists of all time. During his peak, GSP was known for his agility and strength, which helped him dominate the welterweight division. St-Pierre had a serious talk about fighters using Performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs) when he was in the UFC.
Georges St-Pierre came on the Full Send Podcast featuring the NELK Boys. They discussed various aspects of mixed martial arts and the UFC. GSP openly shared his experience and disclosed some facts people were unaware of. St- Pierre talked about fighters using PEDs without knowing the consequences.
GSP said, “I asked myself, ‘How good would I be if I took some stuff?’ Even some of my training partners, they tell me they take certain things and I see (they’re) not even the same people when they are and they are not. Crazy difference.“
GSP explained the effects of PEDs after witnessing their impact in his twenty-year experience as a fighter. The former UFC champion claimed he had never used any banned substances to boost his performance. Georges never failed a drug test in his MMA career. He was also the first fighter to advocate for continuous drug testing in the UFC. Years later, the UFC inked a deal with the USADA to drug test its fighters to prevent cheating in the sport.
Georges St-Pierre talks PEDs
GSP has immense knowledge about the sport of MMA and the intake of supplements. In an interview, he explained the effects of supplements, especially the bad ones. Georges said that they have not only a physical effect on the outer body but also a mental one.
GSP revealed on Full Send Podcast, “People that say, ‘Oh, it has nothing to do with the (drugs) because you’re the one throwing the punch.’ Yes, it has something to do (with it). It’s a bulls**t excuse, because when you take performance-enhancing drugs, it changes you not only physically, it changes you mentally.” He also disclosed how fighters find loopholes to pass the test.
The drug testing during GSP’s prime was not as serious as it is today. The UFC and the USADA did not have a partnership at that time. However, the sport of MMA is better now with the USADA constantly drug-testing them for fair play.
