UFC 296 was the final PPV of 2023. Although it did not match the thrill of the previous PPV, it did have certain lively moments. Interestingly, viral moments of UFC 296 were outside the octagon. First, Colby Covington made offensive remarks about Leon Edwards at the prefight press conference. Second, Sean Strickland and Dricus Du Plessis had an altercation at UFC 296 in the audience. Gilbert Burns recently provided an inside scoop into what happened.

Burns revealed inside information about the interaction on the JAXXON Podcast. This is what he said.

When he stepped, the seat kind of fell. True, they hit each other a little bit. People didn't see that side of the camera. We saw because it was right there, a little bit back and forth. It was nothing clean, powerful. And then Dana came after the fight, like, 'Hey, what happened? Did someone get hurt? Anyone need anything?' Nothing happened to anyone, even those guys. They fought each other, couple blows, but not even.

Burns attended UFC 296 along with his wife and son and had first-hand information about the report. Interestingly, the fight happened between the seats of Burns’ son and Brandon Moreno‘s wife. Securities escorted Strickland after the incident, and Du Plessis trolled Strickland on X.

Strickland and Du Plessis headline UFC 297, the first PPV of 2024. Gilbert Burns will face Jack Della Maddalena at UFC 299 in Miami. Dave Lovell, Leon Edwards’s head coach hinted interest in a matchup with Burns for Edwards. A win over the Australian could put Burns back in the title picture.

Gilbert Burns reveals the conversation he had with Sean Strickland before the altercation

Gilbert Burns has the chance to get a crack at the title for the second time in 2024. He already fought in three PPVs in 2024 and went 2-1. Burns is one of the most active fighters in the welterweight division, where fighters sit on their rankings.

Burns witnessed the altercation between Sean Strickland and Dricus Du Plessis firsthand. Interestingly, he had a conversation with Strickland before the incident. Burns revealed it during his appearance on the JAXXON Podcast. This is what he said.

When Sean came, he came and then kind of looked at the guy, I think he's with me and said, 'Oh, you brought your wife and your kids?' And I said, Yes. And he said, 'Yeah, these freaking guys right there. I might do something for this guy.' That was before the fight. When he walked in, he already had the thing on his head.  Yeah, uh, if I do something, I will give you the heads up whenever the things start going down. This guy kind of looked at me and said now.

From Burns’ account, it is evident that Strickland had planned to attack Du Plessis. Moreover, Burns’ wife was the first to blame Du Plessis for the incident, whereas everybody blamed Strickland for the altercation. Nevertheless, Dana White took the blame as he was responsible for the seating arrangements.
