“He just said no again” – Gilbert Burns reveals ‘BMF’ Jorge Masvidal refused to fight him on 3 different occassions
Gilbert Burns and Jorge Masvidal
Gilbert Burns is currently the #5 ranked welterweight in the world. The Brazilian has 13 wins in the UFC and he has beaten some of the very best in game. This includes the likes of Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson and former champion, Tyrone Woodley.
Burns fought earlier this year as he faced Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 273. It was the most adversity Chimaev has faced so far in his UFC career. “Durinho” has been calling for a fight against Jorge Masvidal for a long time. However, Burns shed a little light on this murky subject through one of his tweets.
“Just letting everyone know that @ufc offered me @GamebredFighter 3x First time was for Nov 12. He said he needs more time, second time for Dec 10 he said he was going to (Brazil) to fight me and now he just said no again! so I guess the B from his BMF belt doesn’t stand for bad”, wrote Burns on his Twitter. With this tweet in mind, it should also be noted that Jorge Masvidal has not fought since his loss to Colby Covington and the subsequent shenanigans that took place outside the octagon.
Masvidal had announced his intentions of fighting champion Leon Edwards. However, the champ has made it clear that he will only fight Gamebred if he can get through Burns. And now, with this statement from Gilbert Burns, it would seem as if Masvidal is purposefully ducking the fight against Durinho to fast track his title shot.
Gilbert Burns had announced that he would be fighting at UFC 283
Gilbert Burns has not fought inside the UFC since his loss to Khamzat Chimaev. However, he presented Khamzat with more adversity than he had ever faced in his fledgling career. Burns landed more significant strikes on ‘Borz’ than all of his opponents before and after, combined.
Clearly, Durinho is a fighter through and through. And despite his credentials as a fighter, he has only fought for the title once, in 2021. Now, with a new champion at the helm, Burns will be looking to string some wins together to challenge for the title. And this might be why he is pushing for a fight against Masvidal.

He posted a tweet on November 10th, in which he said, “I just know one thing! I’m fighting in (Brazil) #ufc283 I don’t know and don’t care who!” Clearly, Durinho is itching for a fight against a top opponent. And despite being past his prime, Masvidal is still a part of the top 10 welterweights in the UFC.
However, if Burns is to be believed, “Gamebred” has rejected the opportunity to fight him 3 times. It seems as though this highly anticipated and sought after match probably won’t happen anytime soon unless something changes. Maybe Durinho should look elsewhere for competition like Belal Muhammad or Geoff Neals.
