Former bantamweight and flyweight champion Henry Cejudo gave his two cents on the recent Israel Adesanya DUI incident. In recent news, Adesanya pled guilty to a drunk driving charge in his home country, New Zealand. Reports suggest that this incident took place days before the world title fight with Sean Strickland.
‘Triple C’ on his Instagram shared his opinion on the whole situation. Henry said, “Israel Adesanya just got a DUI. Is this a publicity stunt? This is the next question that I want to ask. You saw that in the past with (Conor)McGregor, we saw it with Jon Jones. We saw it with Mike Tyson. A lot of these guys literally get in trouble after having a devastating loss or something of that matter. I mean because he’s a big name. Will this work in his favor?“
After his opinion on the controversy, Cejudo proceeded to sympathize with Adesanya over his mistakes. Cejudo said that he wanted Adesanya to continue on his mixed martial arts journey. And to avoid going down the rabbit hole of bad publicity. Further, ‘Triple C’ showed support to Adesanya in such bad times and wished him the best.
Adesanya’s incident has created a lot of controversy in the MMA world. Many questioned Adesanya’s decision to drive under the drunken influence. And others pointed out this incident as a major factor behind Adesanya’s loss. Just 23 days before the fight, such mistakes can potentially create loopholes in a fighter’s confidence levels.
Details behind the Israel Adesanya drunk driving case
The drunk driving incident of Israel Adesanya has caused chaos in the MMA world. Reports suggest that Adesanya has accepted the charges behind his illegal act. These legal troubles have dragged his name into bad publicity.

Reportedly, the incident took place on Wellesley St. in Auckland Central, New Zealand. The alcohol level found in Adesanya’s blood was around 87 milligrams per 100 milliliters. The legal limit in the country is 50 milligrams. This act has charged him with a $4500 fine or a three-month prison time. Prior to this incident, Adesanya faced legal trouble back in 2022.
