Fighter pay has always been a big issue in the UFC. Not all fighters get paid the same. On that front, Henry Cejudo revealed Khabib Nurmagomedov‘s reaction when he learned how much some fighters get paid.
Henry Cejudo is a former UFC Flyweight Champion and Bantamweight Champion. He is a veteran of the sport and has been with the promotion for nearly a decade. Cejudo recently made his UFC comeback after being away from the octagon for close to three years. He fought against Aljamain Sterling at UFC 288 for the Bantamweight title. Cejudo lost the fight via split decision.
Henry Cejudo and Khabib Nurmagomedov share a special relationship. They have been friends for quite a while now and together share a brotherly bond. Cejudo once revealed his paycheck to Khabib. Henry Cejudo and sports personality, The Schmo does a weekly combat sports entertainment show called The Triple C & Schmo Show. In one such episode, Cejudo told fans how the Dagestani reacted to his fighter pay amount.
“When I told Khabib how much I’m getting paid, how much I am asking for…he was so dumbfounded,” Cejudo reveals. “He was like really…Man that’s not right, I understand you.”
The UFC provides different fighters with different contracts, which is why no two fighters make the same amount for a similar event, for example a title fight. According to InsideSport, in his recent fight at UFC 288, Cejudo expects a basic pay of $500,000. “People are on different contracts man. You know, Khabib’s making ten million a fight and we’re nowhere near that,” he says.
Henry Cejudo focuses on the comeback with Merab Dvalishvili after recent loss
Henry Cejudo’s recent comeback after almost a three-year hiatus did not go as expected. He went up against reigning Bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling and took a controversial loss by split decision. Since then, many rumors have come up regarding the former two-division champion’s retirement. So ‘Triple C’ made it clear that he is “far from over” and targets fellow Bantamweight contender Merab Dvalishvili.
32-year-old Merab is a Georgian UFC contender and ranks #1 in the UFC’s Bantamweight rankings. He is a teammate to the Bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling. Cejudo recently took to Twitter and announced that he wants a go at Dvalishvili. “This sh** is far from over! @danawhite I want @MerabDvalishvil head on a plate! #ufcboston,” he wrote.
Now, Dana White hasn’t made any official statements. If the UFC President decides to give Henry what he wants, then Cejudo will face the Georgian at UFC 292 under Sterling vs O’Malley’s main event. Merab Dvalishvili too expressed his willingness to take on the Olympic gold medalist and tweeted back, “Let’s go!” I will take another of @funkmasterMMA‘s leftovers… for now!”
