“One of the GREATEST,” Henry Cejudo, Tom Aspinall and more react to Jose Aldo’s abrupt news of retirement from MMA post-UFC release
Jose Aldo
Jose Aldo‘s retirement might still be shocking enough for many to process the news and react to it, but the immediate tributes have already started pouring for “Junior.” Aldo started competing professionally in 2004 after he moved from his birth city of Manaus to Rio de Janeiro in order to train in MMA and achieve something big in the sport, which at the time meant becoming a world champion, but Aldo is walking off from the sport with taking something more valuable than belts, the heart and respect of the MMA community.
Jose Aldo has the record for the most title defences in UFC-WEC featherweight history. He is submitting for himself a record of 31-8 in his overall MMA career. Out of those 31 wins, Aldo has won 17 by the way of knockouts. His list of wins includes the likes of Rob Font, Marlon Vera, Pedro Munhoz, Jeremy Stephens, Renato Carneiro, Frankie Edgar, Chad Mendes, Ricardo Lamas, Chan Sung Jung, Kenny Florian, Urijah Faber, Mike Thomas Brown, Cub Swanson and many more.
Jose Aldo leaves heartfelt memories for the younger fighters that look up to the MMA legend
Watch out for these reactions below as former double-division UFC champion Henry Cejudo, future bantamweight title prospect Adrian Yanez, future heavyweight title prospect Tom Aspinall and much more show strong admiration upon remembering the glorious career of Jose Aldo. Cejudo was supposed to fight Aldo back in 2020, but due to the Covid restrictions stopping international fighters from outside of the USA to step into any venue across borders, the fight got called off.
Cejudo wrote, “I always wonder what could’ve been. I spent a whole camp training to fight Jose Aldo in Brazil, but COVID changed everything. I was looking forward to the challenge & crazy atmosphere. Happy retirement to one of the greatest featherweights in MMA history @josealdojunior“
UFC bantamweight Adrian Yanez’s dream fight was him against Aldo, he reacted to the news and said on Twitter “If it’s true that he retired. @josealdojunior you’re one of my favorite fighters and an absolute legend. Enjoy retirement, thank you for all the memorable moments”

What do you make of these reactions to Aldo’s retirement? What did you make of Aldo’s retirement? Where do you put Aldo amongst the greatest Brazilian MMA fighters of all time? If he was to fight once more, who do you think Aldo should’ve fought in his last fight left in the current UFC contract? Fair enough to say, Aldo could’ve made up a huge spot for the UFC’s returning fight card for Brazil. Where do you think Aldo goes from here in the next chapter of his life?
