“Make the jump” – Henry Cejudo urges P4P king Kamaru Usman to fight at light heavyweight

Henry Cejudo urges Kamaru Usman to move up the weight division

Kamaru Usman’s well-wisher Henry Cejudo believes it is time for the welterweight champion to move up a weight class. The pound-for-pound king and his entourage think he can hold up with the big boys of the UFC roster.

Kamaru Usman is deservedly the pound-for-pound champion of the UFC. The welterweight fighter has stayed as the division’s champion for quite some time and is chasing the all-time great welterweight Georges St Pierre in numbers to become the greatest ever welterweight fighter to grace the UFC octagon. Usman has recently hinted that he might consider moving up a weight class if things go according to plan.

Ali Abdelaziz, the manager of fighters like Usman and Henry Cejudo posted a tweet recently that said, @USMAN84kg the best 170 lb 185 lb and he can be Champion right now at [light] heavyweight.” Cejudo who is also managed by Abdelaziz gives Usman the approval to move up a weight class. Cejudo surely does know a thing or two about being the champion of two divisions.

“Time to make the jump,” wrote Henry as he encouraged Usman to make a move to a weight class above him. Cejudo was previously the two-division champion of the flyweight and bantamweight divisions. Triple C defended both his belts and retired as one of the most decorated fighters.

However, though Kamaru might be one of the most dominant fighters on the UFC roster, moving up a weight class won’t be that easy. The immediate weight class above Usman is currently reigned by his friend, Israel Adesanya. Both Kamaru and Adesanya have previously expressed on many occasions that they won’t fight each other given the bond they share.

That leaves Usman with the option of jumping straight to the 205-pound division. This move might be considered a bit wild even for the pound-for-pound champion himself. Kamaru might be a heavy welterweight fighter but the top-tier fighters in the light heavyweight division weigh a lot more than Usman and might have an incredible size advantage. What do you think Usman’s next move should be?
