Famed actor and martial artist Michael Jai White believes Jon Jones will run through the Heavyweight division upon making his debut at UFC 285. Jones has not fought since his title defence against Dominik Reyes at UFC 247 back in early 2020. Next month, he is set to take on Cyril Gane for the UFC Heavyweight Championship at UFC 285.
Talking to Youtube content creator DJ Vlad on his channel, Michael Jai White expressed his concerns for the UFC Heavyweight division when Jon Jones lands in the division. The actor firmly believes the wrestling pedigree of Jones will make him the most challenging fight in the heavyweight division. Jones has a unique skill set to pummel fighters on his way to victory. White believes this essential quality of Jones’s skillset would ultimately establish ‘Bones’ as the best fighter in the Heavyweight division.
Jon Jones is among the most dominant fighters in the UFC. His only loss came in a DQ against Matt Hamill in a fight refereed by the often criticized Steve Mazzagatti, who disqualified him for using illegal 12 to 6 elbow strikes. Jones has one of the best resumes in the UFC, defeating the likes of Ryan Bader, Mauricio Rua, Quinton Jackson, Rashad Evans, Lyoto Machida, Vitor Belfort, Alexander Gustafsson and Daniel Cormier, just to name a few.
The most compelling argument for the GOAT case of Jon Jones is the opponents he fought. They were either the division’s champion once or amongst the best fighters. Ryan Bader and Alexander Gustafsson never won the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship, but the aforementioned others have won. It remains to be seen if Jones can replicate his light heavyweight success in the heavyweight division.
Two Championships on the line at UFC 285 and a Special Debut
UFC 285 features the return of Jon Jones after three years away from the Octagon. He will take on Cyril Gane for the vacant UFC Heavyweight Championship. It will be an intriguing matchup considering the savvy fighting style of Gane combined with Jones’s versatile skillset. It will also be seen whether Jones can hang in with the big boys of the heavyweight division.
In the co-main event, Valentina Shevchenko defends her title against Alexa Grasso. Grasso has revived her career in the Flyweight division after experiencing mixed success in the Strawweight division. It remains to be seen if the challenger can give a tough challenge to the champion.
The main card will also feature the debut of wrestling superstar Bo Nickal. Bo is 3-0 as a Mixed Martial Artist and will now look towards conquering the UFC after a stellar amateur wrestling career.
