“He’s a man now”- Kai Kara-France seen as “fighting for something bigger” by teammate Dan Hooker

Kai Kara-France is set to face the former flyweight champion, Brandon Moreno, at UFC 277 Pena vs Nunes for the interim title. The fight will be a 5rounds match in the co-main event, after back-to-back bangers with the current champion Deiveson Figueiredo. The UFC was looking to match them up for the fourth time but due to an injury, he was unable to fight this early. Due to this, the UFC set up an Interim title matchup between the #1 Brandon “The Assasin Baby” Moreno and #2 Kai Kara-France.
This fight will be their second meeting in the octagon as they fought three years prior at UFC 245 in December 2019. After struggling in the first round Moreno picked up the pace in the later rounds. He won on all three Judge’s scorecards by 29-28, 29-28, 30-27.
The Assasin baby went ahead to win his next two bouts and challenge the then champ, Figueiredo. Moreno fought Figueiredo for the flyweight title at UFC 256 in December 2020. The fight was scored to a majority draw. However, the second time Moreno turned things around and submitted the champ in Round 3 at UFC 263 in Arizona. The trilogy fight was similar back and forth as their first matchup. Although it was a closed fight Figueiredo picked up the win by Unanimous Decision and won back the belt.
On the other hand, Kai has won his last three fights after losing to the former champion. He has finished two of his last three fights by KO/TKO. The #2 Flyweight has notably KO’d the former champion Cody ‘No Love’ Garbrandt and has won in his last outing against Askar Askarov by Unanimous Decision.
Hooker and Adesanya break down Kai Kara-France’s resurgence ahead of UFC 277
While breaking down UFC 277 with The Middleweight King Israel ‘The Last Stylebender’ Adesanya, The Hangman Dan Hooker talked about the main event and co-main. France is a friend and is also coached by Eugene Bareman of City Kickboxing like Hooker and Adesanya.
Dan stated, “Since their first fight, I think there’s a massive change in Kai because I obviously think he won the first round and then Brandon started to come over. But, I feel since Ultimate Fighter, since the Moreno fight. The Kai that was fighting then and the Kai that is fighting now is a completely different fighter.”
The Hangman Further stated, “He’s got a kid and a wife. He’s a man now, he has a family. He’s fighting for something bigger.”
Will Moreno be able to repeat history and beat Kai Kara-France to capture The Interim Title? Hence setting up the fourth encounter with the Flyweight King Deiveson Figueiredo. Similarly, if Kara-France succeeds in avenging his loss to Moreno, he will be next in line to unify the 125lbs belts.
