The next hurdle after UFC 298 this week is obvious to Ian Machado Garry. Garry’s looking for some serious payback on welterweight peer, Colby Covington. Recently, Garry was on the main card at Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif. Despite fan’s repulsion of the Irishman for winning at UFC 298, Garry proved why he is indeed ‘The Future’ of the division. Concurrently, more than anything he has his eyes set on ‘Chaos’ next.

Garry defeated the welterweight mainstay, Geoff Neal by split decision (30-27, 28-29, 30-27) at UFC 298. At the Octagon interview with Joe Rogan, Garry called out wishing to retire Covington. Now, he attempts to bait the rival, on the heels of Covington’s title skid recently. Speaking to The MMA Hour‘s Ariel Helwani he said –

I mean, the guy's a joke who's gonna get cooked by the UFC until he puts on his fake persona, that everybody knows about...I know for a fact I'm the biggest fight he's gonna get....no bigger paycheck than me.

This all stems from his wifeLayla Anna Lee‘s 2010 publication: How to be a WAG. Fans, fuelled by Covington, and others, had barbed down his association with his 40-year-old wife’s previous partner, labeling him a victim of celebrity ensnaring. Moreover, Covington had fired vile shots at the British Sports presenter with sexual innuendos, at UFC 296 pre-fight presser.

While Garry himself is known for his attempt at trash talk, he draws the line at the cost of his family. Accordingly, he has blamed Covington for the rise of insensitive trash-talk culture in MMA. Previously vowing to dominate Covington for preemptively defaming his wife, he has doubled down on it again.

Ian Machado Garry wants to free UFC from ‘piece of sh*t’ Colby Covington forever

Irishman, Ian Garry was part of a welterweight bout at the UFC 298 main card at Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif. He came out victorious, ranging his winning streak to 14. But there’s one grudge that means more to him than any prospect at the title gold. It comes in the shape of Colby ‘Chaos’ Covington.

True to his moniker, Covington had mocked Garry and his wife in pure chaotic fashion; he even welcomed a challenge from the rising welterweight later on. During a recent sitdown with The MMA Hour, Garry vowed to defeat Covington face-down on the canvas.

Consequently, this isn’t the first instance he has aspired to do so. Speaking to MMA Junkie and other reporters at UFC 298’s post-fight news conference, he said:

I’m going to beat Colby Covington like we’ve never seen before...Then I want a top-three opponent, someone who is in that title contention, because the truth is, Colby’s biggest claim to fame is he’s fought for three world titles and he’s lost all three.

Garry further went on to allude that while Covington has good wrestling acumen, he lacks in power, even more so than Geoff Neal. Having already defeated Neal, albeit not finishing him, Garry is set on his sure-shot victory against Covington. As such, he asserted that Covington is a “sickness”, which he’ll get rid of once and for all.
